Kick-Off Event at Marbles Kids Museum
Friday, May 14, 2010 - 201 E. Hargett Street.
Join other cyclists to kick-off the annual Bike to Work Week celebration. Event will offer free bike check-ups by REI, a bicycle rodeo for kids and bike safety clinic for adult cyclists. Free beverages provided by Coca-Cola and food provided by Roly Poly!

  • 3 - 6pm: Cycling & Environmental Expo
    Free children’s helmets with fittings (First come, first served). Bike on bus demonstrations.
  • 3:30, 4:30 and 5:30pm: Kids Bike Safety Rodeo
  • 4 - 5:30pm: Community Leaders’ Bicycle Transportation Information Exchange with Elected Officials
  • 6pm: Downtown Group Ride

Tuesday, May 18 - depart for downtown at 7 a.m.
Interested in bike commuting but you need a little support for the first spin? Meet with other bike commuters and a skilled ride leader for a slow-pace, no-drop group ride into downtown Raleigh. Ride starts at North Hills shopping center (4200 Six Forks Rd); free parking available. Arrive as early as 6:30am to have an REI technician perform a free bike check-up for you; group will depart promptly at 7am. Participants will receive Market Bucks to spend in the afternoon when they return as well as REI coupons, water bottles, leg bands, and a map to downtown parking racks, and information on the afternoon return rides. Participants can return to experience the farmers market.

Cyclist Social
May 21, 5:30 - 7pm at Porter’s Tavern.
Mingle with other cyclists at Porter’s City Tavern (2412 Hillsborough St) and enjoy food and drink specials designed especially for the bike commuter!

Triplets of Belleville Screening
Friday, May 21, 7pm.
Free Movie at Witherspoon Hall on NCSU Campus. Open to all cyclists and enthusiasts. Come check out this quirky, animated French film about a cyclist who’s abducted and forced to compete in a never-ending race.

Apex Events

  • May 15, 9am - 12pm: “Ask the Expert” at the Apex Farmer’s Market.
    A bike mechanic from the Bicycle Chain will answer questions, provide some tune-ups, and have water bottles and bike maps for cyclists.

Chapel Hill – Carrboro Events

  • May 15, 8:30am: University Mall Bus & Bike Workshop.
    Demonstrations and info passed out on how to properly load a bike onto a bus, rules of the road, etc.
  • May 15, 8:30am: Carrboro Commons Bike & Bus Workshop.

  • May 17: Cycle Shops Begin Special Sales for BTWW. Participating shops: Cycle 9, The Bicycle Chain, Back Alley Bikes, Performance Bike and Clean Machine.
  • May 18, 7-10am: Go Chapel Hill – Carrboro Bike Workshop at Municipal Lot (across from Open Eye).
    Information regarding bike use, free inspections & small repairs, Open Eye Coffee.
  • May 19: Bike Rodeo for Youth. Sorry, this event is now FULL.
  • May 20: Bike Inspections at no charge at all Cycle Shops
  • May 21: Bike Chapel Hill – Carrboro Bicycle Tour - Riding with Elected Officials.
    • 5:30pm: Everyone gathers. Place TBD.
    • 6pm: Tour begins.
    • 6:30pm: Cyclists stop for water break at Carrboro Town Commons where Chapel Hill and Carrboro Leaders make comments and join the ride.
    • 7pm: The group finishes on the Wallace Deck in Chapel Hill with a band, food, informational tables and a general celebration for BTWW. Events should end around 8:30 pm .

Citywide Events

  • Saturday, May 15, 10am: Ribbon cutting of the American Tobacco Trail to South Street Connector path at 1630 South Street in Durham.

  • 5 o’clock @ the Nott: Every 3rd Thursday of the month through August, starting May 20th, in the parking lot of the Nottingham Building (4505 Emperor Blvd. in Durham near RTP, and the intersection of I-40 & 540)
    There will be beverages, discussions for the Triangle Commuter Bike Path Initiative, Performance Bike providing bike maintenance, live music and more!
    The goal is to come together once a month and commit to bike commute, and thought this would be a great way for cyclists who work in the area to connect with others that live and work near one another.
  • Sunday, May 23, 2 – 6pm: Bull City Summer Streets around Durham Central Park.
    One mile of city streets near downtown will be opened to biking, walking and playing. Come enjoy the safety and fun of open streets, and participate in free dance and aerobics classes, play catch in the old ballpark, and more. More information: http://www.bullcitysummerstreets.tumblr.com/
