Chapel Hill to Kit Creek Drive in RTP - gmap-pedometer.com, route #908117 - Owen E. Says Owen, "The worst segment on this route is the curve on Barbee Chapel Road between Farrington Mill Road and Stagecoach Road. The road is narrow, and curved so sight distances are limited, but traffic is very heavy and cars tend to tailgate and try to pass in spite of the non-existent visibility."

Duke to Carrboro - Sanoodi.com - Rob L. "The quickest route from Duke to Carrboro is Erwin Rd/Franklin Rd (see here). Sometimes, though, the traffic on Erwin is quite dangerous for cyclists. When it is, I take the following route, which is more scenic and more hilly. Mt Sinai is a good cycling road. Turkey Farm Road is pretty and quiet, but adds to the trip distance a little and the surface is poor. You can continue on Mt Sinai until 86 if you prefer. You can also hook into this route from Erwin Rd where it crosses Mt Sinai Rd, which is just before Erwin starts getting narrow and more dangerous. In total, this route is about 50% longer than the Erwin/Franklin route."

"Google maps is not up to date with roads that are part of new housing going up south of Brier Creek parkway that is why that part of the route appears to be "off-road". (This part of the route avoids the speed demons that are all too common on the Parkway.) The Westgate Rd part of the route always seems to cause people the most concern. . . but most of the road has at least a narrow shoulder that provides a little extra biking room."
