Central Durham
In accordance with the Durham Commute trip Reduction (CTR) Ordinance,, employers located in Durham County and the City of Durham, with 100 or more full time or full time equivalent employees at a single worksite, are required to participate in an annual commuting survey and submit an Employer Commute Trip Reduction Annual Report. They develop and implement a Commute Trip Reduction Program designed to reduce the number and length of drive-alone commute trips to and from the worksite. Central Durham includes:
- Downtown Durham
- Duke University
- NC Central University
- Centrally located Durham County Employers
- Employers located in Durham County, within Research Triangle Park
At this time, over 80 Durham employers participate in the program; however, all employers can voluntarily participate in the annual Commuting Survey administered free through Triangle Transit to help make a positive difference on mobility and commute patterns in the county.
Mission
Working together with Durham Employee Transportation Coordinators, local transit agency staff, and Triangle Transit’s Employer Outreach Coordinator for Durham, employers are instrumental in improving our environment, quality of life, and reducing traffic congestion and harmful emissions throughout the area.
Accomplishments
As a result of reviewing and measuring Transportation Demand Management (TDM) efforts and accomplishments, Durham employees are working more off-peak hours, have doubled their telework participation, and increased the use of both carpooling and vanpooling commute options…all resulting in reducing the number of single occupancy vehicles (SOV) and vehicle miles traveled to and from the workplace.
