Fares & Passes

The following table contains a list of fares & passes for each area transit agency. Discount fares are available to seniors, disabled persons, persons with a Medicare card, and children on Triangle Transit, DATA, C-Tran, and CAT buses. Please see the individual agency information below.

Regional Passes

Regional passes and Fares for Triangle Transit will increase on August 18th, 2014. Learn more about the new increases and what pass will work best for your travel needs.

If you transfer between agencies along your trip, you can save your money by purchasing a regional day pass for only $4. The pass is good for unlimited rides for the entire day on CAT, C-Tran, DATA and Triangle Transit buses! The regional day pass can be purchased on CAT, C-Tran DATA and Triangle Transit buses. If you transfer between agencies on a regular basis, then you can purchase the Regional 31-Day Pass for $68.

The Regional 31-Day Pass can be purchased at the Triangle Transit Regional Transit Center, Cary Town Hall, Durham Station, or the Moore Square Transit Station in downtown Raleigh. Regional passes can also be purchased at the GoTriangle Online Store 24 hours a day!


Capital Area Transit (CAT)

Discounted fares are valid all day, Monday - Sunday. A CAT I.D. must be shown when paying reduced fare. CAT I.D. cards can be obtained by calling (919) 890-3459, or fill in this application and take it to City of Raleigh Transit Division, Fourth Floor, 222 W. Hargett St.

Chapel Hill Transit

Shared Ride Evening and Sunday Service- Bus stop to Bus stop 1 ticket

This Evening and Sunday Shared Ride provides service to areas of town that do not receive regular evening and Sunday bus service. Trips can be taken anywhere in the Chapel Hill Transit service area EXCEPT for areas served by evening or Sunday bus routes. This service is available to holders of Chapel Hill Transit bus tickets. Tickets must be purchased in advance.

Tar Heel Express service one-way fare $3.00

Provided for each UNC home football and basketball game as well as most concerts at the Smith Center. Service begins 3 hours - 1.5 hours before the scheduled start of an event. Return trips begin immediately after each event and continue for approximately 1/2 an hour. Buses operate from the Jones Ferry Park & Ride Lot in Carrboro, the Friday Center Park & Ride Lot, the Southern Village Park & Ride lot located on 15-501 south of town, and University Mall at Estes Drive and 15-501. Additional service is provided from the 725 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd lot and the P Lot at MLK Jr. Blvd and Estes Dr. for football games. Click here for more details.

Durham Area Transit Authority (DATA)

Persons with a valid DATA discount ID and customers with a Medicare card may ride for half the regular fare. Customers must show a valid DATA ID or Medicare card to purchase or use discount passes. Youth 12 & under FREE

Youth less than 60 inches in height are presumed to be 12 years of age or younger and permitted to ride free. Youth 12 years of age and younger who are 60 inches or more in height require a DATA ID card to receive the free fare. Proof of age required. Elderly FREE

Discounted fares are available for persons 65 years-old or older. Seniors must show a government issued photo ID or DATA ID to receive the free fare.

Students 17 & under $0.25

Student discount valid weekdays until 8pm. DATA ID required. Please visit this page for details on how to obtain a DATA ID.

Where to Purchase Passes

All passes may be purchased at the Durham Station. The station is open Monday - Saturday from 6am - Midnight, and Sundays/Holidays from 6:30am - 7pm. 

ID cards are now issued on the first floor of Durham Station from 8:30am-11am and 12:30-4:30pm Monday through Friday.
You must bring proof of age and/or your Medicare 
card if applicable.

When purchasing a pass on the bus exact fare is required.

Where to Purchase Passes

Non-discounted Regional and Triangle Transit passes can be purchased online.

Triangle Transit and regional passes may be purchased at Triangle Transit Regional Transit Center with cash or a credit/debit card. To order by mail, send a money order or cashier's check for the appropriate amount to Triangle Transit, P.O. Box 13787, Research Triangle Park, NC 27709. No personal checks are accepted. Regional day passes, 5-day passes, and 31-day passes are also available for purchase with cash only at Durham Station in Downtown Durham and the Moore Square Transit Station Information Booth in Downtown Raleigh.
